An eclectic collection of photos I’ve taken over the years.<\/p>\n

Travel Photos<\/strong><\/p>\n

Many moons ago, I assembled a calendar from the mostly holiday photos I’d taken that year and stuck a copy in with the family Xmas gifts. \u00a0Needless to say I inadvertently made a rod for my own back and what I thought would be a one off became an annual event. \u00a0Some years it’s easy enough to do, others for whatever reason, it’s not, so there’s been a few “special editions” done in less than productive years, cobbled together from old 35mm scans, iPhone only photos and whatever else I could muster; there’s been no complaints.<\/p>\n

I already know next year’s calendar will be a best of, life has seriously gotten in the way of taking photos this year, so I’ve assembled a collection of previously used images to tide me over until I can get out and take some new material.<\/p>\n

All the images were taken on one of the best cameras I’ve ever owned, an Olympus E-M5. \u00a0Many commentators have written off the micro four thirds format, but the only reason I sold up was the need to get grain free images in low light suitable for publication. \u00a0As it turned out, I maybe didn’t need to have bothered, and there’s a good chance I may return to the format which, for my money, is the best image quality for least weight and small size available.<\/p>\n

Hipstamatic<\/strong><\/p>\n

I loved Hipstamatic when it first arrived for the iPhone, the interface was easy to use, some of the effects implemented by changing the “film” were a tad too weird, but others were effective and produced results I liked. \u00a0The change to how they charged rapidly slowed my usage.<\/p>\n

Analog<\/strong><\/p>\n

Like a lot of people, I have boxes of old photos and negatives, as well as numerous boxes of slides, stashed in the loft. \u00a0If you’ve ever tried scanning either a negative or a slide that’s been “mistreated” in this way, you’ll know the tedium of removing dust spots off a digital image. \u00a0Airtight boxes and proper negative files FTW.<\/p>\n

Rallying<\/strong><\/p>\n

Still analog, and all manual focus! \u00a0Not helped by the cold or the rain as the RAC rally was usually in November back in the day. \u00a0The spectator friendly “Mickey Mouse stages” opened the rally over a weekend, whilst the proper stages according to the drivers, ran from Monday to Thursday.<\/p>\n
